The music world is still grieving the sudden and tragic loss of Angie Stone, and now, just months later, another heartbreaking loss has occurred with the passing of D’Angelo. Michael D’Angelo Archer, known internationally as D’Angelo, died on October 14, 2025. His death came only months after the tragic passing of Angie Stone, his former partner and the mother of his son. Angie Stone was widely celebrated for her soulful voice and her early influence on hip-hop as a member of the pioneering female group The Sequence. She tragically died at the age of 63 in a car accident on March 1, 2025.

Angie was traveling from Montgomery, Alabama, to Atlanta when the van she was in was hit by an 18-wheeler truck and overturned multiple times. She was the only person who lost her life in the crash. Her children, Diamond Stone and Michael Archer Jr., shared a heartfelt statement expressing their shock and deep sorrow. They said their mother was their everything, and they were struggling to process the loss. D’Angelo was profoundly affected by Angie’s death. Sources revealed that he was emotionally overwhelmed and did not attend her funeral.

Even though their romantic relationship had ended years before, they remained closely connected through their son and shared a strong bond that many viewed as iconic in the music world. The fact that both would pass away in the same year was a sad twist of fate. D’Angelo’s death followed a private battle with pancreatic cancer, a fight he kept out of the public eye. His family released a statement announcing his passing after a prolonged illness, expressing their heartbreak and gratitude for the musical legacy he left behind. They asked for privacy but invited fans to celebrate his life and contributions to music. He spent his final weeks in hospice care after a long hospital stay.

His son Michael shared that losing both parents within a year had made this a very difficult time, but he was determined to stay strong, inspired by the lessons from his parents. Another son, Swayvo Twain, reflected on his father’s passing on social media. He said that although their relationship was still being rebuilt, his father was there when he needed him most, especially after Angie’s death. Swayvo also mentioned he was not ready to make detailed public statements, but he did not hold any ill will. Angie and D’Angelo first met through a mutual connection in the music industry. They bonded quickly through their shared love of music and creativity, which developed into a deep friendship and later a romantic relationship.

Angie recalled that D’Angelo was the one who pursued her, and at first, she thought he was older because of his mature presence and “old soul” vibe. Despite public criticism—especially about their age difference—Angie stood firmly by their relationship, explaining that the judgment only came after D’Angelo became famous. Before that, he was an unknown 19-year-old who did not attract much attention.

Angie recognized D’Angelo’s talent early and helped shape his early image, including braiding his hair for the cover of his debut album “Brown Sugar.” She believed there was a strong spiritual energy in him, warning that his potential could be vulnerable to outside pressures. Angie predicted that one day the world would celebrate his unique talent and appearance. Though they never collaborated again professionally, Angie believed D’Angelo would have wanted to work together once more. Their connection was based more on a spiritual bond than professional dependency. Angie respected D’Angelo as a musician and understood the pressures he faced as a Black man striving for greatness in a challenging industry.

Angie emphasized that despite their past difficulties, they remained united as parents. She said she would never disrespect the father of her son, and described their relationship as a mixture of love and conflict. Both shared a deep faith and a love for their craft, trying to navigate life’s challenges together. Angie admitted that moving forward required letting go of the romantic part of their relationship, though they stayed connected through their son. Angie also addressed public criticism about their relationship, stating that it did not affect how they felt about each other. She said their relationship simply did not work out, and D’Angelo eventually moved on, having a daughter with another woman. Angie expressed confidence in herself and her worth, unaffected by comparisons or negative opinions.

She revealed that during D’Angelo’s rise to fame, he was very possessive and jealous. She was careful not to give him reasons for suspicion. Angie described how his control sometimes made her cautious, even to the point of avoiding turning her head while driving together because he “didn’t play that.”Despite their ups and downs, Angie said she always stood by D’Angelo, especially as a mother protecting their son. When he faced legal issues, she remained involved to ensure her child was shielded from rumors and confusion. Angie said she balanced her commitments while supporting the situation as needed, prioritizing her role as a mother to provide stability.

In summary, Angie Stone and D’Angelo shared a deep and complex bond shaped by love, music, faith, and the challenges of life. Their recent deaths mark a sad end to a significant chapter in neo-soul and hip-hop history, but their influence and legacy live on through their music and their children.
