The day before the game, FIFA confirmed Balogun would be free to play. Belgium were furious. They then went out and won 4-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Goals from Charles De Ketelaere, who scored twice, Hans Vanaken and Romelu Lukaku sent the co-hosts packing in front of a Seattle crowd that had begun emptying well before full-time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Balogun speaks out<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the game, Balogun addressed the ban controversy directly, saying he had simply accepted whatever decision was made and tried to focus on his job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen you\u2019re given a red card, usually the protocol is you don\u2019t play in the following game. Then when that decision\u2019s overturned, of course it\u2019s going to be controversial,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBelgium were the better team today. They played much better than us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coach Mauricio Pochettino\u00a0said he was\u00a0heartbroken\u00a0and that the team had a lot to learn from the experience. He also took a thinly veiled swipe at outside interference, telling the BBC he was \u201cdisappointed with too many people\u201d who put \u201cpolitics and manipulation\u201d ahead of the integrity of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>FIFA defends the referee Trump called \u2018suspect\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fallout extended beyond the result itself.
