She was non-verbal, had severe autism, and was known to wander and have a strong attraction to water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A massive search was launched, involving hundreds of people, drones, divers, and multiple agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following day, Saylor&#8217;s body was discovered in the water near a popular boat ramp, close to where she was last seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators later turned their attention to the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to police, Saylor had previously worn tracking equipment since 2024, but investigators allege that it had been removed before the family traveled from Virginia. Authorities also allege that her parents encouraged searchers to use the tracking equipment despite knowing she was no longer wearing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Tuesday, Saylor&#8217;s parents, <strong>John Herb Hayes III and Geordyn Nichole Hayes<\/strong>, were arrested in Tennessee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both were charged with <strong>unlawfully exposing a child to danger or willfully abandoning a child<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities have stressed that the arrests and charges are allegations and that the parents are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sheriff Carter Weaver described Saylor as an especially vulnerable child who depended on the adults around her for protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hundreds of people joined the search, with local residents also helping look through nearby properties and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, the investigation continues as authorities work to determine exactly what happened to Saylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A little girl who needed protection is gone, and an entire community is left mourning. \ud83d\udc94<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A heartbreaking search for 5-year-old Saylor Hayes ended in tragedy after the little girl was found dead in South Carolina.
