At just 27, Presley Gerber was still trying to find his way through a battle he had never been afraid to speak about publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber had spent years opening up about mental health, addiction and recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But now, following his sudden death, one of his final social media posts is being looked at in a very different light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Presley died on Sept. 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. His family confirmed his death and asked for privacy during what they described as an extremely painful time. A cause of death has not been released, and an autopsy is still pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just months earlier, Presley had shared a deeply personal glimpse into his recovery journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a March Instagram post , the model documented his experience undergoing an ibogaine treatment, describing the moments before it began as frightening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cQuiet moment before everything changed,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He went on to describe what he hoped the experience would teach him, including learning to surrender some of the control he had been holding onto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cletting go of control didn\u2019t come easy, but I trusted there was something bigger than me guiding it,\u201d Presley wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also described confronting things he had spent years trying to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI knew why I was there. I faced what I had been running from, and somewhere in all of it, I started finding my way back to myself,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then came a line that is particularly difficult to read following his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Presley said he was \u201cpraying it\u2019s the last time I have to come back,\u201d referring to the treatment, before thanking the people who had helped him through the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He ended the post on a lighter note, writing, \u201cAnd I made some dope ass friends there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The post was met with messages of support from the people closest to Presley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His mother, Cindy Crawford, praised her son in the comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou are a warrior! Walked thru the fire to find yourself! So proud!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His younger sister, Kaia Gerber, also shared her pride in her brother, writing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s my brother I am so damn proud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those words now carry a painful weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Like his mother Cindy Crawford and younger sister Kaia, Presley built a career in modeling. He made his runway debut for the Italian fashion house Moschino at just 16 and later worked with major names including Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But as his profile grew, Presley also became increasingly open about the personal struggles he was facing. Rather than keeping those experiences private, he used his platform to speak about depression, addiction and mental health, even launching a series of videos called \u201cMental Health Mondays.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a 2023 podcast appearance, he explained why he wanted to be so open about his experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHaving struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that\u2019s all I need to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also made it clear that helping others had become an important part of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c[Mental health] is an issue. It is such a big part of my life. It\u2019s a 24\/7 job, and there\u2019s so much to it,\u201d Presley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s really what I want to do: help people, whether you\u2019re depressed, you\u2019re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body. I mean it could be anything, and there\u2019s no judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Presley\u2019s openness also had an impact on Kaia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a September 2026 Vogue interview, she spoke candidly about what the family had experienced during what the magazine described as her brother\u2019s \u201cdecade-long struggle with drug addiction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,\u201d Kaia said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She explained that she often saw herself as \u201cthe easy one\u201d and hesitated to ask for help because she felt her parents already had so much to deal with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But she also described her brother\u2019s willingness to be honest about his struggles as something meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn\u2019t share anything \u2014 and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, \u2018I\u2019m gonna be very human for everyone,\u2019\u201d Kaia said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere\u2019s only so much you can hide from the world,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you\u2019re ashamed of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
