When Claire appeared at the end of the aisle, I couldn’t understand what I was seeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She wasn’t wearing the white wedding dress we had talked about for months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was wearing an enormous black men’s suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sleeves covered most of her hands, and the trousers were far too big for her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everyone was staring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then she reached the altar and turned back one of the oversized cuffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I saw an old fabric label covered in faded handwriting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My father, Richard, had died four years earlier. He was only 62.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
