Worse, his mother already knew about Emma and had been avoiding meeting her. Tyler had even encouraged Emma to change their Thanksgiving plans without explaining why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The breakup hurt. She missed him and the future she’d imagined, but she also understood that loving someone didn’t mean ignoring dishonesty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Weeks later, Tyler sent her a letter admitting that his fear of losing her had prevented him from giving her the truth. Emma appreciated his apology but decided not to start over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One day, while putting away the Halloween decorations, Emma found the makeup remover I’d given Tyler that night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
