Dolly Parton, one of the most beloved figures in country music history, has died at the age of 80.

Parton died on August 25 in Nashville, Tennessee, after being hospitalized several days earlier. Her family did not disclose a specific cause of death, saying only that she passed away peacefully.

The heartbreaking news was announced through Parton’s official social media accounts by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, on behalf of the family.

Born in 1946 in Tennessee, Parton grew up as one of 12 children in a poor Appalachian family. She moved to Nashville after high school and began building the extraordinary career that would eventually make her a global icon.

Her breakthrough came after joining Porter Wagoner’s television show in 1967. She later became a solo superstar with unforgettable songs including “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Coat of Many Colors” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Parton was also a successful actress, appearing in films such as 9 to 5, Steel Magnolias and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. She founded Dollywood and became widely admired for her philanthropy.

One of her greatest contributions was the Imagination Library, which provides free books to children and has reached families around the world.

Parton was married to Carl Dean for nearly 60 years until his death in March 2025. The couple had no children and largely kept their relationship private.

Across more than six decades, Dolly Parton became much more than a country singer. She was a songwriter, actress, businesswoman, philanthropist and cultural icon whose work touched generations.
