College Hockey Captain Preston Korytkowski Dies in Tragic Crash at 22

Michigan State University hockey player Preston Korytkowski died in a tragic car crash on August 15 at just 22 years old.

According to reports, Korytkowski was driving a Honda CR-V around 3:40 a.m. in Caroline County, Virginia, when his vehicle struck a disabled tractor-trailer that had pulled onto the shoulder.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries, but Korytkowski was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preston was the captain of Michigan State’s ACHA Division II hockey team and wore number 4. His teammates and former coaches remembered him as an exceptional teammate, friend, and person.

Following his death, the team shared a heartbreaking tribute, writing that they were posting “with a heavy heart” after losing their teammate, friend, and captain.

Friends and teammates also remembered him by the nickname “Hands,” describing him as someone who made everyone around him better simply by being there.

“He was the best person you could ask for in your life,” one friend wrote.

Another teammate said, “A truly good man. Happy to have been his teammate.”

At only 22, Preston had so much life ahead of him. His sudden passing has left his family, teammates, coaches, and friends grieving a young man whose impact clearly reached far beyond the hockey rink.

He will be remembered not only as a captain, but as a beloved friend and teammate.
