Foster Parents Adopt Shaken Baby Survivor After His Biological Parents Failed Him

When LeAnne and Eric Stadler received a call about a tiny 2-month-old boy in the hospital, they had no idea how deeply he would change their lives.

The baby, Easton, was severely malnourished and suffering from failure to thrive. He was so weak that doctors warned the foster parents he could die without proper care.

His biological parents had neglected him, and a visiting nurse eventually found him in terrible condition. She immediately contacted authorities, helping save his life.

When LeAnne and Eric brought him home, they began feeding and caring for him around the clock. But they soon noticed something was seriously wrong. Easton had almost no muscle tone, struggled to control his head, rarely cried, and his head continued to grow.

Doctors ordered an MRI.

The results were heartbreaking. There was bleeding inside his brain and behind his eyes, consistent with non-accidental trauma.

An investigation eventually revealed that Easton’s father had shaken the baby because he was crying. He then failed to seek emergency help after the child suffered a seizure.

Easton survived, but the injuries left him with permanent disabilities.

His new foster parents refused to give up.

They surrounded him with love, nutrition, therapy, and constant care. His progress was slow, but he continued fighting. He eventually learned to walk with special braces and continued exceeding the expectations doctors had once had for him.

Easton was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy, swallowing difficulties, and speech-related challenges. Despite everything, his family says he remains a happy child who doesn’t let his differences define him.

After years of court proceedings, the Stadlers were finally able to adopt him.

Easton became their fifth child.

His foster parents say many people tell them how lucky Easton was to find them—but they see it differently.

They believe they were the lucky ones to find him.
