To fix our gaze on the crucified Christ is to recognize his wounds in the suffering of our world: war, exploitation, environmental ruin, indifference to the poor.

Lent becomes a summons to conversion that is both deeply personal and profoundly social—mercy received, then shared as justice, almsgiving, and a new way of living.

If we do not let this time pass in vain, we can become what Jesus asks: salt of the earth and light for a darkened world.
