Beloved ’60s Hollywood Star Anjanette Comer Dies at 86

Anjanette Comer, the striking actress who rose to fame in 1960s Hollywood and starred alongside Marlon Brando in The Appaloosa, has died at 86.

Comer became one of Hollywood’s promising young stars after appearing in films including The Loved One, The Appaloosa and Guns for San Sebastian. She was even offered major roles opposite Robert Redford in Barefoot in the Park and alongside Warren Beatty in Bonnie and Clyde — but she turned both down.

Looking back, Comer openly discussed the choices and personal circumstances that changed the direction of her career. She later continued working in film and television, appearing in shows including Columbo, Mannix and The Practice.

According to a death certificate obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Comer died May 28 at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center after battling leukemia and heart problems. Her death was not publicly announced until September.

Her career may not have followed the path many expected, but her story remains one of Hollywood’s fascinating “what if” stories.
