Yale Football Legend Tony Reno Dies at 52 — His Son’s Tribute Left Fans Heartbroken

Former Yale football coach Tony Reno has died at just 52, leaving behind an extraordinary football legacy and a family facing an unimaginable loss.
Reno spent 14 seasons as Yale’s head coach, finishing with an 83–49 record and leading the Bulldogs to five Ivy League championships. He stepped down in February because of health issues.
But the most emotional part of his story came after his death.
Tony’s son, Dante Reno, is Yale’s starting quarterback. Just one day after learning that his father had died, Dante made the difficult decision to take the field against Merrimack.
What happened next was remarkable.
Dante threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns, leading Yale to a 41–24 victory.
After the game, Dante shared a simple message dedicated to his father:
“This one’s for you, pops.” ❤️
Dante later explained that he knew exactly what his father would have wanted — for him to keep going, be with his teammates, go to school and play the game they both loved.
Tony Reno leaves behind his wife, Toni, and three children — Dante, Angelina and Vince — along with a lasting legacy at Yale.
For thousands of players and fans, Tony was a legendary coach.
For Dante, he was simply Dad. 🕊️
The full story behind Tony’s final months, his incredible Yale legacy, and the emotional moment that followed his son’s game is in the first comment.
