Football Players Allegedly Put Peanuts in Teammate’s Locker Despite His Life-Threatening Allergy

Carter Mannon, a high school football player in Texas, faced a frightening situation when teammates allegedly placed peanuts in his locker, jersey, and cleats despite knowing about his severe peanut allergy.
Carter had been allergic to peanuts since he was a baby. His mother, Shawna Mannon, explained that even a tiny exposure could trigger a dangerous reaction.
According to his mother, the incident happened at Lake Travis High School before a football game. Carter reportedly developed hives after coming into contact with the peanuts.
His family was especially concerned because Carter had previously suffered a serious allergic reaction after accidentally eating a contaminated cookie, requiring two doses of an EpiPen and a trip to the emergency room.
Shawna said the students involved received limited disciplinary action, including being benched for two days and completing extra conditioning. She also claimed that Carter faced verbal retaliation afterward, including another incident involving a peanut butter granola bar placed in his backpack.
The family brought their concerns to the school board. However, the school district stated that its investigation did not establish that the incident met Texas’s legal definition of bullying.
Carter eventually transferred to another school.
The incident sparked serious concerns about student safety and the consequences of treating a potentially life-threatening allergy as a joke. For Carter and his family, the situation was about far more than a prank—it was about feeling safe at school.
