Video Game Store Manager Goes Viral After Standing Up to Crowd During French Unrest

A video game store manager in France has attracted widespread attention online after footage showed him standing his ground as a group of men confronted him outside the shop. The incident occurred during demonstrations on October 17, when unrest in parts of the country reportedly included looting and damage to businesses.

The man, identified as Pierre, manages a Micromania-Zing video game store operated by GameStop. In the circulating video, he can be seen standing at the entrance, facing several men while appearing determined to protect the premises.

The footage quickly spread across social media, where viewers praised his composure and noticed a Dragon Ball poster featuring Goku behind him. His stance prompted humorous comparisons with the popular anime character, and many users joked that the manager appeared to have stepped straight out of an animated battle.

Although some viewers initially believed Pierre owned the business, later reporting identified him as the store’s manager.

Confrontation Takes a Violent Turn

What began as a tense encounter reportedly escalated when one of the men kicked Pierre in the back, knocking him to the ground.

Other footage circulating online appeared to show the shop’s interior damaged, with debris scattered across the premises. Reports suggested the store had been entered and ransacked during the unrest.

The videos prompted an outpouring of concern for Pierre and the damage suffered by the business. Many social media users expressed sympathy for the manager, while others condemned the destruction of property and the targeting of local workers.

The incident also highlighted the difficulties employees can face when businesses become caught up in public disorder.

Gaming Community Organizes Fundraiser

Following the incident, Double Pixels, a French gaming and pop-culture community led by content creators Wonder and MattOverTheHedge, launched a fundraising campaign on October 18 to support Pierre.

The organizers encouraged members of the public to contribute whatever they could and asked those unable to donate to share the campaign with others.

According to the original report, the fundraiser had collected approximately $21,348, equivalent to €19,029, at the time of publication. No specific fundraising target had been announced, and the campaign was scheduled to close on October 20.

The initiative reflected an effort by members of the gaming community to offer practical assistance to someone whose workplace had reportedly been severely damaged.

French President Addresses the Unrest

The wider demonstrations were linked to public frustration over the cost of living and conditions in public schools. The supplied report estimated that approximately 550,000 people participated in protests across France, while some areas experienced looting and property damage.

In a televised address on October 18, French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence while distinguishing between demonstrators’ grievances and criminal acts.

Macron said that protesters’ legitimate demands should not be confused with the actions of people who looted businesses or destroyed property. He also stressed that those responsible for such damage should face consequences and repay what they had taken or damaged.

According to the report, France’s Interior Ministry said police had arrested around 2,400 people. Macron also indicated that local authorities could restrict certain demonstrations if they considered such measures necessary.

He did not announce a nationwide state of emergency or curfew in the reported address.

An Incident That Sparked an Online Response

Pierre’s confrontation became widely discussed because the footage captured both his attempt to stand his ground and the violence that reportedly followed. The unexpected appearance of the Dragon Ball poster added a humorous element to the online reaction, but the reported damage to the store brought attention back to the real consequences of the incident.

The fundraising campaign offered supporters a way to help Pierre as the community responded to the footage.

The episode also underscored the distinction between peaceful demonstrations and acts of violence or looting, which can leave workers and local businesses facing serious consequences.
