Georgia Family Claims Veterinary Worker Took Their Dog Home Instead of Putting Her Down

A Georgia family has been left devastated after allegedly discovering that their beloved pug was taken home by a veterinary clinic employee instead of being euthanized, despite the family having agreed to put the dog down.
Rebecca Belote’s pug, Cha Cha, was just four years old when veterinarians at Senoia Animal Hospital in Coweta County reportedly diagnosed her with organ failure caused by diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication associated with diabetes.
According to the family, the veterinary staff recommended euthanasia after assessing the dog’s condition. Faced with an incredibly difficult decision, the Belotes eventually agreed, believing it was the kindest option for their pet.
They said their goodbyes to Cha Cha and returned home believing they had lost a much-loved member of their family.
But months later, an unexpected discovery on Facebook reportedly changed everything.
Family Spots Their Dog in a Facebook Photo
While browsing Facebook, the family came across a photograph of a pug that looked remarkably similar to Cha Cha.
Having already mourned their dog, they were shocked by the possibility that the animal in the picture could actually be theirs. They decided to investigate and contacted the person who had shared the photograph.
According to the family’s account, the person turned out to be connected to an employee at the veterinary clinic. When the Belotes got in touch, the employee’s husband allegedly admitted that they had taken Cha Cha home instead of having her euthanized.
He reportedly told them that the pug had recovered and was doing well.
The discovery left the family with serious questions about what had happened after they had said goodbye to their pet.
Family Claims Clinic Later Had Cha Cha Put Down
Rebecca reported the situation to the veterinary hospital, but she says the events that followed made the situation even more upsetting.
The family alleges that the clinic retrieved Cha Cha from the employee’s home. However, rather than returning the dog to the Belotes, they claim the animal was euthanized in March.
Rebecca expressed disbelief that a dog who had reportedly recovered was put down after the family discovered what had happened.
Speaking to Atlanta television station WSB-TV, she questioned why a seemingly healthy animal would have been euthanized. She also suggested that the clinic may have wanted to eliminate evidence of what had taken place.
These are the family’s allegations, and they have not been independently proven.
Veterinary Clinic Has Not Publicly Responded
The Belotes say Senoia Animal Hospital has denied taking the dog or misleading the family.
Rebecca explained that the clinic has legal representation and has declined to discuss the matter with her. The hospital also did not respond to a request for comment from the New York Post.
According to WSB-TV, Rebecca has since filed a formal complaint with the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
The complaint could give the relevant authorities an opportunity to examine the family’s claims and determine whether any professional rules were violated.
For now, the circumstances surrounding Cha Cha’s treatment and eventual death remain disputed.
Family Says the Loss Has Been Especially Difficult for Their Son
Beyond the unanswered questions, the family is still struggling with the loss of a dog who meant so much to them.
Rebecca said her 17-year-old son shared an especially close bond with Cha Cha. The two even had matching hoodies, and she recalled how he often carried the little pug instead of letting her walk.
She described how attached her son had become to the dog, making the situation particularly painful for him.
For the Belote family, what began as a heartbreaking goodbye has turned into a deeply distressing dispute over what really happened to their beloved pet.
