Armed Teenagers Try to Rob Marine Veteran Working on His Truck, but He Fights Back

Four teenagers allegedly believed they had found an easy target when they approached a man working on his pickup truck outside his home. What they did not know was that the man was a trained Marine Corps veteran.
The incident happened in June 2026 in Oxon Hill, Maryland, where Jheyco Borda was working on his truck when the group approached him in broad daylight.
Borda later recalled noticing something suspicious as the teenagers began pulling up their hoods.
“I had a gut feeling when they started putting their hoods on and stuff,” he told WJLA.
Teenagers Allegedly Pointed a Gun at His Head
According to reports, the four teenagers surrounded Borda and demanded his keys and cellphone. The situation quickly became dangerous when one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Borda’s head.
Faced with an armed threat, Borda waited for an opportunity to respond. When the teenager holding the weapon became distracted, the veteran suddenly lunged at him.
Drawing on the close-combat skills he had learned during his time in the Marines, Borda fought back and attempted to stop the robbery.
The confrontation was captured on video. As the struggle continued, Borda’s brother rushed in to help. Moments later, a gunshot rang out.
The bullet struck the bed of Borda’s pickup truck, but fortunately, neither Borda nor his brother was hit.
Brothers Managed to Hold the Suspects Until Police Arrived
Despite the danger, the two brothers managed to overpower the teenagers and keep them at the scene until officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department arrived.
All four teenagers were taken into custody. One of the suspects reportedly suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment.
Borda made clear that he believed the teenagers should face the consequences of their actions.
“They knew what they were doing, so they have to pay for the consequences,” he said.
Speaking to Fox 5, he also credited his military background for helping him react so quickly.
“Once a Marine, always a Marine,” Borda explained. He said the training he received during his service came back to him in the critical moment.
Damage to His Truck Was Estimated at $2,000
Although the brothers escaped without gunshot injuries, the incident left Borda with a damaged vehicle.
The bullet reportedly caused around $2,000 in damage to his pickup, and he said his insurance would not cover the repairs.
However, the financial loss was far from his biggest concern.
Borda was especially relieved that his children had not been with him that day. His dog, Sky, who usually rides in the back seat of the truck, was also thankfully elsewhere when the shooting occurred.
What began as an ordinary day working on a vehicle could easily have ended in tragedy. Instead, Borda and his brother managed to survive the confrontation, while the four suspects were taken into police custody.
