Pilot’s Final Words Before Fatal Florida Jet Crash Revealed in Air Traffic Control Recording

A private jet carrying nine people crashed into a Florida neighborhood after reportedly encountering dangerous weather conditions. Now, recordings of the final communication between the pilot and air traffic control have revealed the frightening moments before the aircraft went down.
The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. on Sunday in Palm Springs, Florida. The Learjet 60 had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading toward North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
But while flying over Florida, something went terribly wrong.
Video footage captured the aircraft plunging nose-first toward the ground before erupting into flames. The impact created a large crater in the roadway, while debris scattered across the surrounding neighborhood.
Emergency crews, including Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies and fire rescue personnel, rushed to the scene as thick black smoke rose into the sky.
Aircraft Reportedly Lost Altitude Rapidly
According to reports, the aircraft made a sharp right turn before beginning its final descent.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the jet dropped from approximately 35,250 feet to 8,750 feet in just over a minute before crashing.
The exact cause of the disaster has not yet been established.
Aviation attorney, licensed pilot and former NASA aerospace engineer Mike Slack reviewed information about the flight, including the communication between the cockpit and air traffic control.
Speaking to CBS Austin, Slack suggested that weather conditions may have played an important role.
He said the pilot appeared concerned about the situation and was attempting to obtain permission to climb while encountering weather conditions that she believed the aircraft could not safely handle.
Slack said the available information appeared to point toward a possible weather-related event, although investigators will need to determine exactly what happened.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described the crash as a major tragedy and expressed gratitude for the emergency responders who quickly arrived to secure the area.
Pilot Warned About Ice and Turbulence
The most disturbing details emerged after recordings of the final exchange between the pilot and air traffic control were made public.
The audio, archived by LiveATC.net, captured the pilot discussing icing, precipitation and moderate turbulence before the aircraft began losing altitude.
According to the recording, the pilot initially reported:
“Minus 47 degrees Celsius. We’re managing the ice, but it is moderate turbulence.”
The pilot then reported that the aircraft was encountering precipitation and requested permission to climb.
Air traffic control acknowledged the request and confirmed the aircraft could climb and maintain its assigned altitude.
However, the situation soon deteriorated dramatically.
“We’re Gonna Crash Into the Ground”
In the final moments of the recording, the pilot reported that the aircraft was descending rapidly and declared an emergency.
The pilot issued a mayday call and reported that the aircraft was descending at approximately 10,000 feet per minute.
The situation appeared to worsen as the descent accelerated.
The recording captured the pilot reporting a descent of around 20,000 feet per minute, followed by the chilling warning:
“We’re gonna crash into the ground.”
The air traffic controller responded, attempting to maintain communication and asking the pilot to explain what was happening.
The pilot continued reporting an extremely rapid descent and said the aircraft was banking at approximately 60 degrees.
The recording then captured a scream before the communication fell silent.
Investigators Still Need to Establish What Happened
The final audio provides a disturbing account of the aircraft’s last moments, but it does not establish the precise cause of the crash.
The pilot’s references to ice, precipitation and turbulence have raised questions about the role weather may have played. However, investigators will need to examine the aircraft, flight data, weather conditions and other available evidence before reaching a conclusion.
The crash claimed nine lives and left a devastating scene in the Florida neighborhood.
Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of everyone affected by this tragedy.
